Summer had just begun when my parents took me to visit the beach in Seattle. The shore opened into a wide stretch of blue water, with soft mountains in the distance and light resting on the small waves.
Along the dock, I saw someone setting up their boat. A few more boats rested farther out on the water, their sails catching the quiet afternoon. I decided to paint the scene and hold on to that gentle moment between the shore and the horizon.
Echoes of the Tide is a small memory of that day: the warm sand, the distant boats, and the feeling that summer was only beginning.
