Floating Narritives

Floating Narritives began in a very ordinary moment: sitting in the studio with no clear idea of what to paint next. Instead of fighting that feeling, I decided to experiment with it. I looked around at the things close to me and started turning them into a more imaginative scene.

A memory from a recent vacation became part of the background, along with my dad’s magnifying glass. Around it, I added small pieces of daily life: a tube of oil paint, a brush, a winter hand warmer, my water bottle, hand cream, my piano, and bracelets I often wear.

I also wanted the painting to carry a sense of home, so I included pine trees as a quiet nod to Washington, the Evergreen State. The finished piece is about letting imagination enter through boredom, and seeing an empty moment as something useful instead of pointless.
