Little Blue Teacup studies a simple object with warmth and restraint. The cup came from my teacher’s cupboard, where its brand name was printed across the front. I asked if I could borrow it and draw it, bringing home an everyday classroom object so I could spend more time looking closely at its shape.

When I began the piece, I chose not to copy every printed detail exactly. Instead of drawing the brand name on the front, I changed the lettering to my initials, LY, making the teacup feel more personal while still keeping the spirit of the original object.

The cup sits low on the page, its rounded body and blue rim shaped by soft shadows rather than heavy outlines. There is a gentle sense of character in the object, as if the teacup has been paused mid-story. The quiet background keeps attention on the small variations of blue, cream, and shadow that make the form feel familiar and handmade.
