The Gathering of Seasons

The Gathering of Seasons brings several small crochet pieces together as one collection. Each piece belongs to a different time of year: a rabbit for spring, a bee for summer, pumpkins for autumn, and two snowmen for winter. Together, they feel like a soft little calendar made from yarn.

The rabbit began as a replacement for one my auntie had made for me. After I accidentally lost the original, I recreated another one, spending about eight hours trying to bring that memory back in my own hands.

The bee carries a different kind of memory. A bumblebee was the very first thing I learned to make when I started crocheting, and that first version was not how I hoped it would be. Making another one for myself became a way to compare where I began with how much I have grown.

The pumpkins came from experimenting. I first made a ball with color-changing yarn, then realized it could become something more interesting, so I added lines, a stem, and two leaves to turn it into a colorful pumpkin. Afterward, I made a second pumpkin in a more realistic color because I wanted to see how the shape would change with a quieter palette.

The two snowmen were made for people close to me. The smaller one was for my friend’s brother, whose birthday falls in winter, and the larger one became a Christmas gift for my dad.

The dinosaur was more of a challenge: I tried making up the pattern myself after seeing a crocheted dinosaur at my dad’s office. It did not turn out exactly as I imagined, but it still belongs in the collection because it shows the trying, learning, and experimenting behind the finished pieces.
