It was almost summer break when my mom took me with her to the office. Outside, between her building and the neighboring buildings, there was a small stream tucked into the city. The place felt quiet in a way I did not expect, with water moving below the structure and straight lines rising around it.

This painting became my first time making an image that included buildings and architectural forms. It was a different kind of challenge from painting natural shapes. I had to slow down and pay attention to the edges of the buildings, the direction of each line, and how the perspective held the scene together.

The process made me notice how much structure is hidden inside an ordinary view. A stream, a viaduct, and the side of an office building could have been easy to pass by, but painting them for four hours turned them into something more careful and memorable.
